If you are interested in learning more about what diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) looks like through the lens of Jesus and find yourself wanting to engage in positive change in and through the FPU community, then the Multicultural (MC) Scholars Leadership Program is for you. The purpose of the Multicultural Scholars Leadership Program is to equip FPU student leaders to holistically engage in DEI work campus-wide (and beyond) and to encourage students to seek to understand and embrace not only their own but also the multicultural identity of others.
Program Requirements and Expectations
MC Scholars
- Must enroll as a full-time traditional undergraduate student at FPU (equivalent to 12 units per semester).
- Must maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.5.
- Mid-semester reporting (grade checks) required
- Must attend regularly scheduled meetings as set by program coordinator(s).
- Must dedicate at least two hours per week to a service project/ event. More information to come.
- Must receive College Hour credit by attending at least 14 College Hour sessions each semester.
- Will engage with one another in the MC Scholars cohort (comprised of 8 students total)
- Will complete the MC Scholars Leadership Program curriculum over the course of one academic year. (Curriculum subject to change each year.)
- Will submit a reflective assignment celebrating multiculturalism at the end of the academic year. More information to come.
- Will fulfill all other responsibilities as listed by program coordinator(s)
- Are encouraged to find a mentor
- Should attend designated diversity events and trainings
It is understood that
- The MC Scholars Leadership Program committee is committed to the student (who maintains the requirements) for a period of one academic year.
- Students who cannot commit to one full academic year are not eligible to participate in the program.
- A new cohort of students is selected each academic year. Students must reapply each academic year to be considered.
- Students will be gifted a scholarship of $1,200 per semester ($2,400 per academic year).
- Scholarship can be revoked if requirements and expectations are unfulfilled.
Multicultural Scholars Leadership Program Application Steps
- Apply and be admitted to Ï㽶ÊÓƵ¹ÙÍø by the established deadlines
- Complete a Multicultural Scholars Leadership Program
- Submit a personal statement by responding to the following prompts in 2 pages or less.
- How would you define your own cultural identity?
- In what areas do you wish to grow in understanding your cultural identity?
- What gifts, talents, and/or abilities do you feel you can contribute to the program?
- Please share your spiritual/faith journey.
- Submit one recommendation form completed by someone familiar with your leadership abilities.
- All application materials should be submitted to ilc.assist@fresno.edu by the established deadline.

After August 1, applications will be accepted on a rolling basis through the start of the Fall semester, if funds are available.
